About the Pontiac Grand Am
The fourth-generation Pontiac Grand Am arrived in 1992 with a dramatic 'swoopy' redesign, featuring the brand's signature ribbed body cladding and a driver-focused cockpit. While available as a sensible sedan, the GT Coupé with the 2.3-litre High Output Quad 4 engine was the enthusiast's choice, offering a high-revving DOHC character rare in American compacts of the era. The engine was notorious for its harsh NVH levels, yet it provided genuine pace that could challenge contemporary sport compacts from Japan and Europe. Today, it is a cult classic, valued for its bold nineties styling and the raw, mechanical nature of its Oldsmobile-designed powerplant.
