About the Saab 900 NG
The second-generation Saab 900, known as the 'NG', was the first model developed under General Motors ownership, utilizing the GM2900 platform shared with the Opel Vectra. Despite its corporate underpinnings, Saab engineers insisted on significant modifications to maintain the brand's identity, including the iconic floor-mounted ignition and the robust B204L engine. The 2.0 Turbo variant is particularly prized for its 'Trionic 5' engine management system, which was highly advanced for the mid-1990s. While it lacked the raw character of the 'Classic' 900, it offered improved refinement, safety, and a massive cargo area that remained a class leader.

Saab 900 NG fun facts
- The NG 900 featured the 'Night Panel' function, which blacked out all dashboard illumination except the speedometer to reduce driver eye strain during night driving.
- Saab offered a 'Sensonic' transmission option for this model, which was a manual gearbox without a clutch pedal, using sensors and actuators to operate the clutch.
- The B204 engine is so over-engineered that it has become a cult favourite for tuners, often capable of handling over 400 hp on stock internal components.
