About the Pontiac Grand Am
The fifth-generation Pontiac Grand Am debuted for the 1999 model year, featuring a significantly stiffer chassis and a longer wheelbase than its predecessor. Sharing the GM N-body platform with the Oldsmobile Alero, it was distinguished by Pontiac's signature aggressive ribbed body cladding and a split-grille design. The 2.4-litre 'Twin Cam' LD9 engine served as the base powerplant, offering a balance of efficiency and adequate performance for the era's compact segment. While popular for its sporty styling, the model was often criticised for its heavy use of interior plastics and unrefined low-speed handling.
