About the Peugeot J7
Launched in 1965 to replace the D4, the Peugeot J7 was a forward-thinking commercial vehicle featuring front-wheel drive and all-independent suspension. Its most distinctive feature was the sliding front doors, which could be locked open while driving to aid ventilation and ease of access in tight urban spaces. The 1.5-litre petrol engine was shared with the Peugeot 403 and 404, providing reliable if modest performance for a vehicle with a substantial 1,400kg payload capacity. While never officially sold in the UK, it has become a cult classic for camper conversions, prized for its boxy, space-efficient design and Gallic character.
