About the Mazda E-Series BA2
The second-generation Mazda E-Series, known domestically as the Bongo, marked a significant shift for Mazda's commercial line by moving to a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. This configuration allowed for a remarkably low and flat load floor, especially in the 'Wide-Low' versions featuring smaller twin rear wheels. The 1.6-litre petrol variant was a staple of the range, offering a balance of reliability and sufficient torque for urban deliveries. While primarily a utilitarian tool, its simple mechanicals and cab-over design have earned it a cult following among classic van enthusiasts and JDM collectors. Its longevity is evidenced by its continued production under licence by Kia as the Bongo and Ceres well into the 1990s.
