About the Peugeot 304
Introduced in 1972, the 'S' (Sport) variant of the Peugeot 304 brought a significant performance boost to the elegant Pininfarina-designed range. It featured the XL3S engine, which utilised a twin-barrel carburettor to produce 75 PS, a notable increase over the standard 65 PS unit. While the 304 shared its basic architecture with the smaller 204, it offered a more sophisticated aesthetic and improved cabin space. The S trim is particularly sought after by collectors for its improved drivability and rev-happy nature, though surviving saloons are increasingly rare due to historical corrosion issues.
