About the Ford Corcel

The Ford Corcel was the result of Ford's acquisition of Willys-Overland do Brasil, inheriting 'Project M' which was being co-developed with Renault. While it shared its mechanical underpinnings with the Renault 12, the Corcel featured unique Brazilian styling and was launched nearly two years before its French counterpart. It was a pioneer in the Brazilian market, introducing front-wheel drive and a sealed cooling system to a region dominated by rear-drive American and German designs. Despite early quality issues that led to Brazil's first major automotive recall, it became a beloved staple of Brazilian motoring history.
