About the Opel Manta A

The Manta A was Opel's answer to the Ford Capri, offering a sleek, American-influenced fastback silhouette designed by George Gallion. Sharing its chassis and 'Cam-In-Head' (CIH) engines with the Ascona, the Manta was praised for its superior handling and precise rack-and-pinion steering. The 1.9 SR was the range-topping sporting trim for much of its life, distinguished by its matte black bonnet, additional gauges, and stiffer suspension. Though sold as an Opel in the UK, it became a cult favourite for its balance of transatlantic style and European driving dynamics.
