About the BMW 1602 02 Series
The BMW 1602, originally launched as the 1600-2, was the foundational model of the 02 Series and the spiritual ancestor to the modern 3 Series. Designed by Wilhelm Hofmeister's team, it distilled the 'New Class' engineering into a shorter, lighter two-door body that prioritised agility and driver engagement. By 1973, the model featured the 'Mod 73' updates, including plastic grilles and square tail lights, while retaining the robust M10 engine. It remains a highly sought-after classic for its purity of design and balanced handling, offering a more accessible entry point into the 02 Series than the 2002.
