About the Simca 1501
The Simca 1501 Special was the range-topping evolution of the 1301/1501 series, introduced in 1969 to offer a more spirited driving experience. It featured the 'Type 342S' engine with a twin-barrel carburettor and a revised cylinder head, pushing output to 81 hp and enabling a top speed of 100 mph. Distinguished by its sporty black grille with integrated auxiliary lamps and a wood-rimmed steering wheel, it was marketed as a sophisticated alternative to contemporary Peugeots and Fords. Today, it is a rare sight on UK roads, celebrated for its quintessentially French quirks and robust engineering.
