About the Opel GT
The Opel GT is a design-led sports car that famously resembles a scaled-down C3 Corvette, a result of shared General Motors DNA and styling by Clare MacKichan. Beneath the striking steel bodywork, which was manufactured by French coachbuilder Brissonneau & Lotz, the GT utilised the reliable chassis and running gear of the Opel Kadett B. The 1.9-litre 'Cam-in-Head' engine was moved back in the chassis to create a front-mid-engine layout, resulting in surprisingly balanced handling. Its most distinctive feature is the manually operated pop-up headlights that rotate 180 degrees via a large lever on the centre console. While it lacked an external boot lid, its aerodynamic efficiency and low weight made it a credible, stylish alternative to contemporary British and Japanese sports cars.

Opel GT fun facts
- The headlights are not vacuum or motor-driven; they are flipped over manually using a heavy mechanical lever inside the cabin.
- Despite being a German car, the Opel GT's body was actually built in France by Brissonneau & Lotz because Opel's own factories were at full capacity.
- The car has no opening boot or hatch; luggage must be loaded through the doors and placed in the carpeted area behind the seats.
