About the Lotus Exige S2
The Series 2 Lotus Exige transitioned from the Rover K-Series to the Toyota-sourced 2ZZ-GE engine, featuring Yamaha-designed VVTL-i technology that delivers a distinct cam-change surge at high revs. Unlike the Elise, the Exige features a fixed roof, a functional roof scoop, and a comprehensive aerodynamic package including a front splitter and rear wing to generate significant downforce. Its bonded aluminium chassis and unassisted steering provide a raw, communicative driving experience that remains a benchmark for lightweight sports cars. While the later supercharged 'S' models offered more torque, the naturally aspirated 1.8 is prized by purists for its linear power delivery and lighter kerb weight.

Lotus Exige S2 fun facts
- The 2ZZ-GE engine's 'lift' engagement occurs at approximately 6,200 rpm, completely changing the car's acoustic and performance character.
- The Exige S2 was the first version of the model to be officially sold in the United States, arriving for the 2006 model year.
- Despite its fixed-roof appearance, the roof panel is technically removable, though doing so affects the airflow to the engine bay on later supercharged models.
