About the Chevrolet Monza

Launched for the 1975 model year, the Chevrolet Monza was a more upscale, sporty evolution of the H-body Vega. Its sleek 2+2 fastback silhouette was famously nicknamed the 'Italian Vega' due to its strong resemblance to the Ferrari 365 GTC/4. While originally designed to house a GM Wankel rotary engine, the project was cancelled late in development, leaving the Monza to rely on the Vega's aluminium-block 2.3-litre four-cylinder as its base powerplant. Despite its humble mechanical underpinnings, the Monza's sophisticated torque-arm rear suspension provided significantly better handling than its predecessor, eventually becoming the blueprint for future Camaro generations.
