About the AMC Hornet
Launched in 1969 for the 1970 model year, the AMC Hornet replaced the ageing Rambler American and became the foundation for American Motors' survival throughout the 1970s. Designed by Dick Teague, it featured a clean, modern aesthetic and a robust unibody construction that was ahead of many domestic rivals. The 3.8-litre (232 cu in) straight-six was the heart of the range, offering a balance of reliability and sufficient torque for the era's highway speeds. While often overshadowed by the Big Three, the Hornet is now appreciated by collectors for its simple engineering and its role as the platform for the Gremlin, Concord, and the innovative 4WD Eagle.
