About the Oldsmobile Cutlass
The seventh-generation Oldsmobile Cutlass was introduced in 1997 as a more upscale sibling to the Chevrolet Malibu, filling the gap between the Achieva and the Intrigue. Unlike its famous rear-wheel-drive predecessors, this iteration utilized the front-wheel-drive N-body platform and was powered exclusively by the 3.1-litre 3100 V6 engine. It represented the final use of the 'Cutlass' name, which had been a staple of the American mid-size market since 1961. While competent and comfortable, it lacked the distinct personality of earlier generations and was discontinued after 1999 to make way for the Alero.
