About the Morris Oxford Farina

Launched in 1959, the Morris Oxford Series V marked a radical shift for BMC, replacing the rounded 'Nuffield' styling of the Series III with a sharp, angular body designed by Pinin Farina. It was part of a massive badge-engineering exercise, sharing its chassis and 1.5-litre B-Series engine with siblings from Austin, MG, Riley, and Wolseley. While the fins and two-tone paint options offered a touch of American-inspired glamour, the driving experience remained quintessentially British—dependable, if somewhat pedestrian. Today, it is a staple of the classic scene, valued for its simple mechanics and its role in the evolution of the modern family saloon.

Morris Oxford Farina fun facts

  • The Series V was the first Morris Oxford to feature a floor-mounted gear lever as standard, though a steering column change remained an option for traditionalists.
  • Despite its Italian styling, the Series V was criticized by some for its 'cam and peg' steering, which was considered a step backward from the rack and pinion setup of earlier Morris models.
  • The Series V had a very short production run of just two years before being replaced by the larger-engined Series VI in 1961.
