About the Moskvich 402
The Moskvich 402 marked a significant departure for MZMA, moving away from the Opel-based designs of its predecessor to a more modern, three-box sedan silhouette. Introduced in 1956, it featured a 1.2-litre side-valve engine and was the first Soviet car to offer amenities like a standard radio and a 12-volt electrical system. While its performance was modest, the 402 was praised for its ruggedness and ability to handle the poor road conditions of the Soviet Union. It served as the foundation for the more successful 407 and 403 models, representing the 'Thaw' era of Soviet automotive engineering.
