About the Willys Aero

The Willys Aero was a forward-thinking compact car introduced by Willys-Overland to compete with the 'Big Three' using advanced unibody construction. While the brand was famous for its rugged Jeeps, the Aero was designed for efficiency and agility, boasting one of the best power-to-weight ratios in the American market at the time. The 2.6-litre 'Lightning' flathead engine provided smooth, economical performance, though the car's high price relative to full-sized rivals limited its commercial success. Production in the US ended in 1955 following the Kaiser merger, but the model found a second life in Brazil where it was produced for another decade.
