About the Mitsubishi eK
The third-generation Mitsubishi eK, launched in 2013, was the first product of NMKV, a joint venture between Mitsubishi and Nissan. Moving away from the previous generation's semi-tall design, it adopted a taller 'tall-wagon' profile to compete with the Suzuki Wagon R and Daihatsu Move. It featured the all-new 3B20 MIVEC engine and a focus on interior quality, including a touch-panel climate control system that was a first for the kei car class. While efficient and practical for urban Japanese environments, the model was later central to a 2016 fuel economy testing scandal that affected its reported efficiency figures.
