About the MG MG3
The third-generation MG3 marks a significant shift for the brand, replacing the long-running budget hatchback with a sophisticated full-hybrid powertrain. Developed with input from MG's Longbridge-based engineering team, it features a unique three-speed automatic transmission and a relatively large 1.83kWh battery for its class, allowing for more frequent electric-only urban driving. The 'Hybrid+' system delivers a combined 194 PS, making it one of the most powerful cars in the supermini segment. The Trophy trim sits at the top of the range, adding premium features like a 360-degree camera and heated seats to a package that remains focused on undercutting established rivals like the Toyota Yaris.

MG MG3 fun facts
- The MG3 Hybrid+ uses a rare 3-speed automatic transmission, designed to bridge the gap between the efficiency of a CVT and the engagement of a traditional torque converter.
- Its 1.83kWh battery is significantly larger than those found in most hybrid competitors, enabling it to reach higher speeds on electric power alone.
- Despite its budget-friendly positioning, the MG3 was tuned specifically for UK roads by engineers at the SAIC Motor European Design and Technical Centre in Birmingham.
