About the MG Metro Turbo
Launched in 1982, the MG Metro Turbo was British Leyland's answer to the burgeoning hot hatch market, featuring a Garrett T3 turbocharged version of the venerable A-Series engine. Engineering input from Lotus helped refine the chassis and suspension to handle the increased power, which was significant for a car weighing just over 800kg. It is distinguished by its unique body kit, 13-inch alloy wheels, and a boost-controlled fuel system that was advanced for its time. Today, it is a rare and sought-after classic, representing a high-water mark for the Metro's performance credentials before the arrival of the 6R4.

MG Metro Turbo fun facts
- The engine featured a unique 'boost-controlled' carburettor setup because the gearbox sat directly below the engine, limiting space for traditional fuel injection.
- Lotus Engineering was heavily involved in the development, specifically tuning the suspension and advising on the Garrett T3 turbocharger installation.
- Despite its performance, the Metro Turbo retained the four-speed gearbox of the standard car, which was often cited as its main mechanical limitation.
