About the Ford RS200
The Ford RS200 was a bespoke homologation special designed from the ground up for the FIA Group B rally category. Unlike its rivals which often shared DNA with production models, the RS200 featured a unique mid-engine layout and a composite body designed by Ghia. Its chassis, engineered by Formula 1 veterans Tony Southgate and John Wheeler, utilised a complex four-wheel-drive system with three viscous-coupling differentials. While the road-going 1.8-litre Cosworth BDT engine was detuned for reliability, the car remains a pinnacle of 1980s engineering, though the cancellation of Group B in 1986 limited its competitive legacy.

Ford RS200 rarity in CarSpot
The Ford RS200 is a Unicorn card in CarSpot, with a rarity score of 100 out of 100. The rarest tier: hypercars, one-offs and cars built in tiny numbers, typically fewer than about 500. A Unicorn card is worth 320 XP.
Each model's tier starts from a 0–100 score based on its value plus its power or production numbers. Once enough players have spotted a model, how often it is spotted can move it up or down one tier. How CarSpot rarity works
Rarity is a collectible game mechanic, not an assessment of real-world scarcity or value.
Ford RS200 fun facts
- The RS200's doors, windscreen, and rear lights were sourced from the Ford Sierra to save on development costs and maintain a corporate look.
- The car features a unique twin-damper setup at each wheel, a design choice intended to provide maximum suspension travel and durability for rally stages.
- Though 200 units were required for homologation, it is widely believed that only 144 to 148 complete cars were ever fully assembled before the project was halted.
