About the Maserati Indy
Launched at the 1969 Geneva Motor Show, the Maserati Indy was designed by Vignale to bridge the gap between the Ghibli and the Mexico. Named to commemorate Maserati's 8CTF victories at the Indianapolis 500, it offered a genuine four-seater cabin and a practical rear hatch. The 4.7-litre variant, introduced in 1970, provided a significant performance boost over the original 4.2, featuring a quad-cam V8 derived from the 450S racing engine. It remains a more accessible alternative to the Ghibli, prized for its balance of high-speed stability and grand touring comfort.
