About the Maserati 250F
Designed by Gioacchino Colombo with Vittorio Bellentani and Alberto Massimino, and with tubular work by Valerio Colotti, the 250F raced in the 2.5-litre formula from January 1954 to November 1960. Juan Manuel Fangio won on its debut at the 1954 Argentine Grand Prix, and Stirling Moss raced his own privately owned car that season. Its 2,493 cc straight-six first gave 220 bhp at 7,400 rpm, with fuel injection, a five-speed gearbox and disc brakes arriving in 1955 and lighter T2 cars in 1956. Fangio won four championship races in 1957 on the way to the title, before the new rear-engined cars left it outclassed in 1958. Twenty-six were made, and privateers raced them until 1960.
