About the Maserati Bora
Introduced in 1971 as Maserati's first mid-engined production car, the Bora was a refined alternative to the raw supercars of its era. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, it features a distinctive brushed stainless steel roof and a sophisticated Citroën-sourced high-pressure hydraulic system that operates the brakes, pop-up headlights, and even the adjustable pedal box. The 4.9-litre variant, introduced in 1973, provided extra torque to offset US emissions equipment and eventually became the standard global specification. It is celebrated by collectors for its usability, featuring a carpeted engine cover and double-glazed glass to ensure a remarkably quiet cabin for a 1970s exotic.

Maserati Bora fun facts
- The Bora's hydraulic system allows the driver to move the entire pedal box forward or backward to find the perfect driving position.
- Despite its supercar performance, the Bora has a drag coefficient of just 0.30, which was exceptionally aerodynamic for the early 1970s.
- The cabin is so well-insulated that it was famously described as a 'gentleman's express' rather than a noisy track machine.
