About the Maserati 222
Introduced at the 1988 Turin Motor Show, the Maserati 222 represented the first major facelift of the original Biturbo coupé. Designed by Marcello Gandini, it featured a more aerodynamic rounded nose, new wing mirrors, and an integrated rear spoiler. The '222' designation signified its two doors, 2.0-litre engine, and second generation status. While it retained the luxurious wood-and-leather interior of its predecessor, technical improvements to the fuel injection and suspension made it a more reliable and composed grand tourer than the early 1980s models.
