About the Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth
The Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4 arrived in 1990 as a more mature and capable successor to the original rear-drive 'Cossie'. Swapping the three-door hatchback for a four-door saloon body, it featured a Ferguson-developed all-wheel-drive system with a 34:66 front-to-rear torque split. The 2.0-litre YB engine was significantly revised for this generation, gaining a stronger block and a green cam cover to denote its cleaner, catalyst-ready status. While it lacked the wild 'whale-tail' spoiler of its predecessor, its superior traction and refined chassis made it a formidable cross-country machine and a successful Group A rally platform.
