About the Lada Nadezhda
The VAZ-2120, known as the Nadezhda ('Hope'), was the first minivan produced by the Russian automotive industry. Built by AvtoVAZ's Pilot Industrial Production (OPP) division, it utilised a lengthened chassis and the permanent four-wheel-drive system from the VAZ-2131 Niva. Despite its practical seven-seat layout and off-road capability, the model suffered from poor build quality, dated styling, and high production costs. It remained a low-volume curiosity, primarily sold within the CIS markets, before being discontinued in favour of more profitable models.

Lada Nadezhda fun facts
- The Nadezhda's sliding rear door was only located on the right-hand side of the vehicle to save on production costs.
- Early pre-production models used twin round headlamps from the VAZ-2106, but series production cars adopted the rectangular units from the Lada 110.
- The car's name, Nadezhda, is both the Russian word for 'Hope' and a common Slavic female name.
