About the Lada Niva
The Lada Niva, or VAZ-2121, is a legendary compact off-roader that revolutionised the 4x4 market by being the first mass-produced off-road vehicle with a unibody construction. Introduced in 1977, the 1995 model represents the updated 1.7-litre era, featuring a larger engine and a five-speed gearbox to replace the original 1.6-litre unit. It remains famous for its permanent four-wheel-drive system with a lockable centre differential and exceptional off-road capability despite its diminutive size. While basic and unrefined on tarmac, its mechanical simplicity and durability have earned it a cult following globally.
