About the Jaguar XJR X300
The X300-generation XJR was a pivotal moment for Jaguar, representing the first time the company used a supercharger in a production road car. Developed under Ford ownership, it combined the classic, low-slung styling of the Series 3 XJ with modern reliability and a potent AJ16 straight-six engine. The Eaton M90 supercharger provided immediate, linear torque, allowing this heavy luxury saloon to challenge contemporary performance benchmarks from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Today, it is highly regarded by collectors for its blend of traditional British craftsmanship and muscular, understated performance.

Jaguar XJR X300 fun facts
- The XJR used a heavy-duty GM 4L80-E automatic transmission, the same unit found in the Bentley Turbo R and the Hummer H1, to handle its high torque output.
- While most were automatics, Jaguar produced a tiny number of manual X300 XJRs—only 102 units—making them some of the rarest modern Jaguar saloons.
- The XJR's distinctive exterior features included a body-coloured radiator surround with a stainless steel mesh grille, a design cue that became a signature for future 'R' models.
