About the Jaguar S-Type R
Introduced for the 2003 model year, the S-Type R was Jaguar's definitive answer to the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG. It featured a supercharged 4.2-litre V8 and the first six-speed automatic transmission in its class, housed within a retro-styled body that hid its performance potential. The 'R' was distinguished by its wire-mesh grille, 18-inch 'Zeus' alloy wheels, and a sophisticated Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) system. While it lacked the raw edge of its German rivals, it offered a uniquely British blend of effortless low-end torque and high-speed refinement.
