About the Jaguar E-Type Series 3
The Series 3 marked the E-Type's transition from a lithe sports car to a sophisticated grand tourer, necessitated by tightening US emissions and safety standards. It introduced Jaguar's first production V12, a smooth all-aluminium unit originally intended for Le Mans, which provided effortless torque and refined cruising. To accommodate the larger engine, the Series 3 used the longer 2+2 wheelbase for all variants, featuring flared wheel arches and a distinctive cross-slatted grille. While heavier and less agile than the early 3.8-litre cars, the V12 Roadster remains a highly desirable collector piece for its mechanical prestige and open-top elegance.
