About the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud
The Silver Cloud II, introduced in 1959, was a landmark moment for Rolls-Royce as it debuted the 6.2-litre all-aluminium V8 engine, a powerplant so successful its architecture remained in use for over 60 years. While externally almost identical to the Series I, the V8 provided a significant boost in torque and acceleration, transforming the car's ability to keep pace with modern traffic. It represents the final era of the traditional body-on-frame Rolls-Royce, offering a majestic, 'wafting' ride quality that defined the brand's reputation. Collectors prize the Series II for its blend of classic 1950s styling and the more robust, powerful mechanicals of the later cars.
