About the Isuzu Trooper
The second-generation Isuzu Trooper, known as the UBS series, was a significant step up in refinement and size over its utilitarian predecessor. In the UK, the 3.1-litre 4JG2 turbodiesel engine became the definitive choice for its robust reliability and impressive low-end torque, making it a favourite for towing and serious off-roading. While it lacked the prestige of a Range Rover, its body-on-frame construction and selectable four-wheel drive provided genuine go-anywhere capability. It is famously one of the most rebadged vehicles in history, sold globally under brands including Vauxhall, Opel, Honda, and Acura. Today, early 3.1 TD models are increasingly sought after by collectors for their 'bomb-proof' reputation compared to the later, more complex 3.0-litre units.
