About the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport
The first-generation Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, known as the Shogun Sport in the UK, was designed to bridge the gap between the utilitarian L200 pickup and the full-sized Pajero. Utilising a robust ladder-frame chassis and a live rear axle, it offered genuine off-road capability and a high towing capacity of up to 2,800kg. The 2.5-litre 4D56 turbo-diesel engine is legendary for its durability, though its performance is modest by modern standards. While less refined on tarmac than contemporary monocoque SUVs, its mechanical simplicity and 'Super Select' 4WD system make it a favoured choice for overlanding and rural work.
