About the Suzuki Grand Vitara
The first-generation Suzuki Grand Vitara, launched in 1998, was a significant evolution of the original Vitara, offering a more refined interior and a sturdier chassis while retaining its body-on-frame construction. The 2.0 TD variant, particularly the common-rail version introduced around 2001, provided a much-needed boost in torque and fuel efficiency for European markets. Unlike many contemporary soft-roaders, it featured a proper low-range transfer case, making it a surprisingly capable off-road vehicle. It remains a popular choice for budget-conscious enthusiasts who require a compact vehicle that can handle genuine green-laning and towing duties.
