About the Isuzu Trooper
The first-generation Isuzu Trooper, known as the Bighorn in Japan, was a pivotal vehicle in the transition of 4x4s from agricultural tools to family transport. Introduced in 1981, it received a significant update in 1987 with the introduction of rectangular headlights and the 2.8-litre 4JB1-T turbodiesel engine, which offered much-needed torque for off-roading. Its simple body-on-frame construction and independent front suspension provided a balance of durability and relative on-road comfort. Today, it is valued by collectors for its honest, utilitarian design and legendary reliability compared to its more complex successors.
