About the Honda Today
The second-generation Honda Today (JA4/JA5) marked a significant shift for the nameplate, moving away from the utilitarian, van-like roots of the original to become a dedicated passenger kei car. Launched in 1993, it featured a distinctive 'pouch-like' rear trunk lid and a wraparound rear window, though a traditional hatchback was restored in a 1996 facelift. It is powered by the E07A three-cylinder engine, which in high-trim Xi models featured the MTREC multi-throttle system shared with the Honda Beat. For collectors, the Today is prized for its unique 1990s Honda design language and its surprisingly sophisticated chassis, which includes a long wheelbase for its class.
