About the Daihatsu Opti L300
Launched in 1992 as a more upmarket and stylish alternative to the utilitarian Mira, the first-generation Daihatsu Opti (L300) was designed with an 'ultra-lovely' theme aimed primarily at female buyers. Its distinctive rounded bodywork sacrificed some rear headroom for aesthetics, featuring a bubbly silhouette that stood out in the crowded kei car segment. Built on the L200 Mira chassis, it offered improved sound insulation and higher equipment levels, including an optional electric canvas top. While powered by a modest 660cc three-cylinder engine to meet Japanese tax regulations, its lightweight construction and cheerful character have made it a cult favourite among JDM enthusiasts.
