About the Honda FR-V

Launched in 2004, the Honda FR-V (Flexible Recreation Vehicle) was a compact MPV distinguished by its rare 3+3 seating layout, a configuration shared only with the Fiat Multipla. This design allowed for a shorter, wider footprint than traditional seven-seaters, improving agility while maintaining a large boot. The 1.7-litre VTEC engine served as the entry-level petrol option until it was replaced by the 1.8-litre unit in 2007. While not a performance car, it is highly regarded by collectors and families for its bulletproof Honda reliability, clever interior packaging, and the ability to carry six people without the length of a full-sized van.

Honda FR-V fun facts

  • The FR-V's 3+3 layout allows the front middle seat to slide back, creating a staggered 'V' formation to provide more shoulder room for the driver.
  • Despite its compact exterior length of just 4.28 metres, the FR-V offers a 439-litre boot even with all six seats in use.
  • In its home market of Japan, the car was sold as the Honda Edix and was available with an optional 2.4-litre engine and all-wheel drive.
