About the Ford Focus Mk3

The Mk3 Ford Focus facelift, introduced in late 2014, refined the model's sharp handling with a cleaner 'Aston Martin-style' grille and a significantly improved interior featuring the SYNC 2 infotainment system. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine was the star of the range, winning International Engine of the Year multiple times for its ability to provide 1.6-litre performance with much lower emissions. In Zetec trim, it offered a balanced specification including the Quickclear heated windscreen and sports-style seats. While it lacks the raw power of the ST, its agile chassis and torque-rich triple make it one of the most engaging mainstream hatchbacks to drive.

Ford Focus Mk3 fun facts

  • The 1.0 EcoBoost engine block is so small that its footprint can fit on a single sheet of A4 paper.
  • Ford engineers used an intentionally unbalanced flywheel instead of heavy balance shafts to smooth out the three-cylinder engine's natural vibrations.
  • The 2015 facelift introduced 'Perpendicular Parking' technology, which could steer the car into spaces alongside other vehicles, not just parallel to the kerb.
