About the Ford Zephyr Mk1
Launched at the 1950 Earls Court Motor Show, the Ford Zephyr Six (Mk1) was a landmark for Ford of Britain, introducing modern monocoque construction and the first mass-produced application of MacPherson strut front suspension. It was the larger, six-cylinder sibling to the Consul, offering a smooth 2.3-litre engine that made it a popular choice for both executive transport and the police. The Zephyr proved its mettle in competition, famously winning the 1953 Monte Carlo Rally and the 1955 East African Safari Rally. Today, it is celebrated for its 'trans-Atlantic' styling and its role in establishing the Zephyr/Zodiac lineage as the flagship of the British Ford range.
