About the Ford Thunderbird
The fifth-generation Thunderbird, nicknamed the 'Glamour Bird', marked a significant shift towards the personal luxury segment, growing larger and heavier to distance itself from the Mustang. For 1967, Ford abandoned unibody construction for a body-on-frame design to improve refinement and introduced a four-door variant with rear-hinged 'suicide' doors. The 390 cubic-inch (6.4L) FE V8 was the standard powerplant, providing smooth, effortless torque suited for high-speed cruising rather than cornering agility. Its distinctive jet-intake inspired front grille with hidden headlights and full-width sequential taillights remain its most iconic design features.
