About the Cadillac Calais
The 1971 Cadillac Calais represented the entry point into the brand's lineup, sharing the same massive 130-inch wheelbase and 472 cubic-inch V8 as the more expensive DeVille. This second-generation model featured a significant redesign with a wider stance, curved side glass, and a new front-end treatment with dual round headlamps in square bezels. While it lacked the plush interior appointments and standard features of its siblings, it offered the same imposing presence and smooth, effortless cruising capability. The 1971 model year is notable for being the last year the 472 V8 was rated using SAE gross horsepower before the industry shift to net ratings.
