About the Ford Galaxie
The 1965 Ford Galaxie marked a significant redesign for the third generation, introducing a new chassis with coil-spring rear suspension that greatly improved ride quality over its predecessors. This model year is instantly recognisable by its vertically stacked dual headlights, a styling cue that defined Ford's full-size line-up in the mid-sixties. The 390 cubic-inch (6.4-litre) FE V8 was the most popular engine choice, offering effortless torque for highway cruising. While the Galaxie 500 and LTD trims offered high levels of interior comfort, the car remained a heavy, soft-riding cruiser rather than a dedicated sports machine.

Ford Galaxie fun facts
- The 1965 redesign replaced the traditional leaf springs with a three-link coil-spring rear suspension, which Ford marketed as providing a 'Liquid Smooth Ride'.
- The 1965 Galaxie was the first Ford to feature the 'LTD' designation, which stood for Luxury Trim Decor and eventually became a standalone model.
- The vertically stacked headlights were inspired by the 1963 Pontiac, but Ford's execution became an iconic look for the brand throughout the mid-1960s.
