About the Chevrolet Van
The first-generation Chevrolet Van, often called the ChevyVan, debuted in 1964 as a forward-control response to the Ford Econoline and Volkswagen Type 2. Unlike the rear-engined Corvair 95 it replaced, the G-series utilised a front-mid engine layout with the engine placed between the front seats. The G20 designation represented the heavy-duty 3/4-ton chassis, offering greater utility than the base G10. Its flat-faced design and short wheelbase made it highly manoeuvrable, laying the groundwork for the American van culture that exploded in the following decades.

Chevrolet Van fun facts
- The 1964 model is easily identified by its flat glass windscreen, a feature that was updated to a curved design in later generations.
- To keep the floor low and flat, the radiator was mounted at an angle and fed air through a grille located below the front bumper.
- The G20 used a 'doghouse' engine cover inside the cab, which provided easy access for maintenance but generated significant heat for the driver and passenger.
