About the Commer FC
Introduced in 1960, the Commer FC (Forward Control) was the Rootes Group's answer to the BMC J4 and Bedford CA. The initial 1500 trim utilised a 1.5-litre engine derived from the Hillman Minx, mounted between the driver and passenger seats to maximise load space. Its distinctive rounded front and narrow front track—a result of using Humber car-derived suspension—gave it a unique appearance and tight turning circle, though it was known for being somewhat unstable at higher speeds. While later versions became the ubiquitous 'Spacevan' used by British Telecom, these early 1500 models are now rare and sought-after examples of British commercial history.
