About the Chevrolet Van

The third-generation Chevrolet G-Series van, introduced for the 1971 model year, moved the engine forward of the driver for a 'short-nose' design that improved safety and interior space. The G20 was the popular 3/4-ton nominal payload variant, striking a balance between the light-duty G10 and the heavy-duty G30. It became a cultural icon during the 1970s 'vanning' craze, serving as a blank canvas for elaborate custom paint jobs, shag carpet interiors, and bubble windows. Its robust body-on-frame construction and reliable Small Block V8 engines ensured a long production life spanning twenty-five years with only minor cosmetic updates.
