About the Buick Electra
The 1973 Buick Electra 225 represented the height of American 'land yacht' luxury before the 1973 oil crisis forced a shift toward downsizing. Built on the GM C-body platform, it featured a massive 455 cubic-inch (7.5-litre) V8 engine, which by 1973 had been detuned to meet new emissions standards and net horsepower ratings. The '225' designation originally referred to the car's length in inches, though by 1973 it had grown even longer due to federally mandated 5-mph impact bumpers. It is remembered for its exceptionally smooth 'Cloud 9' ride and opulent interior, serving as a more affordable alternative to a Cadillac.
