About the Buick Electra
The 1978 Buick Electra represents the second year of General Motors' radical downsizing program, which saw the flagship 'Deuce and a Quarter' shed nearly 900 pounds and 11 inches in length. Despite the smaller footprint, the fifth-generation Electra maintained its reputation for a 'nautical-grade' ride, floating over road imperfections with a soft suspension setup. The 6.6-litre (403 cu in) V8 was an Oldsmobile-sourced unit, part of GM's controversial engine-sharing policy of the era, providing smooth torque for effortless highway cruising. Today, it is a quintessential example of the late-1970s American luxury sedan, prized for its comfort and period-correct velour interiors.
